Myrtle berries

We are a not-for-profit cooperative promoting the use of permaculture and organic farming in the west of County Galway. Our primary focus in on berry-producing plants of the Vaccinium genus that thrive in the acid soils of coastal Connemara. These shrubs include the many varieties of blueberries, cranberries, lingonberries, farkleberries, bilberries, huckleberries, whortleberries, myrtilberries, and we are sure you get the general idea.

Members have help available from planning to planting and harvesting. We provide the soil science, plant selection, organic compliance, pest controls, and harvesting. The cooperative purchases the fruit from the farmer and creates value-added products for wholesale and retail sales.

The profit from value-added product sales is returned to the commity as educational grants, funding science learning, promoting botanical art, and furthering horticulture in our area.

The cooperative also conducts ongoing botanical research into the best varieties and cultivars of berry plants for our area's climate and variety of soil conditions.
